Knightsen Residential Farm Project
The vision of a residential farm was born from the belief that adults living with a persistent mental illness can recover to lead fulfilling lives if given the proper environment to heal. A residential farm provides a unique setting for hope, solace and a renewed vision of life.
To that end in 2003, A Beautiful Night (ABN) Housing Inc. was formed to raise funds to build a residential farm in Contra Costa County for adults living with a mental illness. After funds were raised and property purchased through the charitable contribution of the Reynolds family, the challenge began to find a non-profit organization to open and run the residential farm.
In 2008, Bonita House, Inc. was chosen to carry on the ABN effort because of its exceptional reputation and over 40 year history working with adults living with a mental illness.
The proposed site is a 10 acre parcel in the small town of Knightsen in Eastern Contra Costa County. The house on the parcel is to be remodeled to accommodate 10 individuals. The residential facility will be licensed by the State of California Community Care Licensing as an Adult Residential Facility.
Plans are to open in 2012.
